The Lubbock sketch club is a group of comic book artists, cartoonists, illustrators, painters and fine artists in West Texas - working together to provide resources, inspiration and support to help each other become successful.

Our mission is to enable artists to live up to their fullest potential artistically, and spiritually - to use their lives and talents to make the world a better place, and inspire others to do the same.

Well its finally here... We've been working on this for a while.... Lubbock's first ever comic book show! We would like to remind everyone about the LUBBOCK COMIC BOOK EXPO coming this Saturday (May 3rd) at the SCIENCE SPECTRUM from 10am - 6pm. Take the back entrance of the science spectrum to get to our event. We expect each and every one of you to be there. Many Bothans died to make this happen. Don't let the Bothans' sacrifice have been in vain. Even if you were attacked by zombie hordes the night before - you better fight your butt off and show up for Free comic book day! Come early Saturday morning! You get a ton of Free Comics (courtesy of STAR COMICS - 2014 34th) for your troubles. What more could you want? YOU WILL BE ENTERTAINED!!!! And its only $3 to get in!!!!!! (kids under 12 accompanied by adults - and people in costume get in free!)

Meet local creators and see presentations about the budding South Plains Comic book community. Find out about famous cartoonists and comic book artists from here, the history of comics in Lubbock, and hear about the Vision for the future of comics in West Texas. Dress your kids up as their favorite Super Heroes for our Costume Contest! And stick around for the Iron Artist competition and Metropolis comic book radio show Live broadcast. Then Join us afterwards for the after show Sketch Night at Freebirds World Burrito!

Tell your friends, bring your family, and help make this the first of Many successful comic book shows in Lubbock!

1:00 - 1:30 PM - Special Presentation - "Why Comics Are Cool" (Presenter - Rob Weiner)

1:30 - 2:00 - "Lubbock's comic book legacy" - famous artists from West Texas - (Presenter - Scott Slemmons)

The Lubbock Comic Book Expo is an event organized by the Lubbock Sketch Club, Star Books and Comics, Metropolis radio show KTXT, FreeBirds World Burrito and the Science Spectrum of Lubbock. This is our first year. There has never been an exclusively comic book convention here before, and definitely never been a small press comics show. We have a very busy month coming up for the Lubbock Sketch Club.

STORE SIGNING

First off! Will Terrell is doing a store signing Thursday 3/27 from 10 am to 6pm at Star Books (2014 34th st) for his newest comic book the Goblin Chronicles. Come by and check out the new book and buy a raffle ticket for original artwork to help raise funds for the LUBBOCK COMIC BOOK EXPO.

24 Hours in Lubbock - Fri 3/28 - Sat 3/29

Lubbock's first official 24 hour comic event. Doors open: Begins: Friday, March 28th at 9:30pm (Asbury Center / Hope Shalom off of 19th and Ave T) Doors close at 10:00pm, sorry no latecomers. Ends: Saturday, March 29th, at 10:00pm (Freebirds World Burrito on South Loop 289)

What is a 24-hour comic?

The ultimate comicbook creating marathon. A virtual rite of passage for any comics creator. All you have to do is make something that usually takes 24 days in 24 hours... Make a comic, 24 pages (+ cover) in 24 hours from start to finish. No preparation, outlines, layouts, character designs, or script.

Art Show - Friday April 4th

"Drawing on Inspiration! The Lubbock SketchClub art show and Sketch Night! The First Friday art show where YOU are part of the fun! Visitors are invited to view the groups exhibit of cartoons, comics, and fine arts, check out the costumed figure drawing demonstration in the studio, and Sketch with the artists in the Sketch Club classroom. Located on the third floor of the Asbury/Hope Shalom building at 20th and Ave T, room 301, Friday April 4th from 5-10pm."

Jan 14th 2008

FIRST FRIDAY ART TRAIL The Lubbock Sketch Club artists will be on the First Friday art trail in March (3/7), featured at Hard Tops Gallery. Getting our fine arts on. We will be taking submissions for the show in February. We hope you'll join us.

ON Going events

As always, we will be meeting every Saturday night from 7-10 pm at Freebirds on the South Loop 289. Anyone is invited, children under the age of 10 are recommended to bring an adult.

And something new this year, it looks like we are doing regular events and presentations with the schools in the Lubbock Independant school district.

Dec 1st 2007

Our Texas Country Reporter episode aired today. I think it was done really well. It was fun to see everyone on TV. I'll make sure to post the episode on here when/if they put it on youtube.

I've added a few new artists links to the list on the left. It's also come to my attention that a lot of people arent noticing the menu ABOVE, and have thought this News section is all there is to the site. It probably gets lost in the image, I'll have to redesign that. But make sure to check out all the other sections on this website. There's plenty to read, and lots of pictures.
