| The
Lubbock SketchClub participates in local public events
regularly; We have exhibited at the Lubbock Arts Festival,
The Garden and Arts Festival and several events at the
Science Spectrum of Lubbock. We have a very interactive
format whenever we do live events. Usually we are provided a
table to sit and draw, and we invite hundreds of guests and
attendees to sit and sketch with us. At the Arts Festival
we had over 400 guests draw with us, and did "cartooning
for kids" demonstrations for over 3000 elementary school
kids. |

We do our best to contribute unique value to each event and
bring whatever we can to the community. What we have found is
that this group drawing format gets people very excited when
they see what we are doing and they jump right in to participate.
Our motto, is "Draw like you're a kid." But usually
we dont even have to say it. This is just part of the atmosphere
the SketchClub is able to create.

In
the next year, on top of our regular public events, we are looking
to do more school events. The school events would be "cartooning
for kids" presentations to classes. and entire grade
levels. If you are involved with a school and would like to
help us set something up, please get in touch with us!

"LIVE
art"
|
|
|
LIVE
art is an energetic and inspirational form of group drawing.
It is often done in a party atmosphere with LIVE music and
lots of people.
Bringing
together artists and music in their element, and inviting
the public to step into our world. Watch us create and feel
our groove. LIVE art shows are also excellent opportunities
to purchase original works of art or signed prints.
LIVE art events will be posted on our front page as they are
scheduled - or sign up for our mailing list to stay up to
date.

"Lubbock Comic Book Expo" |
|
|
The SketchClub,
in cooperation with the Science Spectrum of Lubbock, KTXT/Metropolis
radio show and Star Books and Comics; are organizing the first
Lubbock Comic book Expo. A small comic convention presented
to showcase local comic book creator talent, and bring in
professional comic book creators and publishers from throughout
the region to participate. This is primarily an educational
convention.
Our Mission:
To lay
the foundation for a long-term comic book creators community
in Lubbock Texas, by giving local and regional creators an
opportunity and outlet for making and selling their comic
books, while educating the general public about making and
reading comic books - selling them on the "vision" of the
Lubbock Sketchclub and our community.
To set the stage and tone for doing this convention in subsequent
years and from then on, and to begin developing the culture
in west Texas to support and sustain our own independent comic
book creators market.
To inspire
people to make comic books and give them the tools resources
and opportunity to do that successfully.
"THE
INFO"
When:
Saturday May 3rd (free comic book day!) from 10 am – 7pm
LIVE art show Friday May 2nd - on the First Friday Art Trail
in the Science Spectrum Atrium from 6-10pm
Where: The Science Spectrum of Lubbock
What: An educational comic book convention, with an exhibit
hall of 20-30 creators and professional artists, and retailers.
A workshop area for demonstrations and the Sketchclub group
learning format. And the auditorium for presentations and
demonstrations.
What is it REALLY about?: Not only are we introducing our
community to the general public, but we are painting a picture
of where this community is headed and the possibilities of
what comic books can be - Getting people excited about what
we're doing today, but even more excited about what this is
all building up to.
Why: Because to get what we've never had, sometimes we have
to do what we've never done.
If you
would like to help support this convention, or would just
like to be kept up to date with the progress, please contact
us. We want this to be a success, and we can use all the help
we can get. Email: sketchclub@gmail.com
